Why Houdini Elementary School?

Why Houdini?

Houdini Elementary School serves almost 600 children in grades K-6. We celebrated 25 years of excellence during the 2013-2014 school year.

Houdini has a long-standing “magical” tradition of being innovative and enjoys a very strong sense of community support.

Innovation

Houdini Elementary staff launched a new scheduling model to allow time for students to receive daily enrichment/intervention opportunities time (DEIO). This schedule provides grade level teachers weekly collaboration time to closely monitor student progress and to plan lessons for student success.

Assessment Wall

Grade level teachers, the building principal, reading specialist, and student services personnel all collaborate about the effectiveness of interventions and enrichment of all students – using an Assessment Wall. All staff members remain focused on individual student success all the time.

Building Character

Houdini staff members strive to meet the needs of all learners by addressing their individual academic, social, and emotional needs. Our ultimate goal is to prepare them for the 21st Century world they will eventually enter. Houdini Staff teaches character education classes weekly based on behavioral data to proactively ensure a safe, respectful and responsible school climate.

A School with Heart

We are fortunate to have a very strong community with committed staff and parents. Several years ago, a group of PTO parents formed the Houdini HEART Committee. This group has raised approximately $70,000 to help with technology needs at Houdini Elementary. Phase 1 has been completed and we are looking forward to Phase 2 of the committee’s goal.
